DESCRIPTION
A magnificent example of Napoleon III-period luxury decorative arts, this French mantel clock features a richly glazed cobalt blue porcelain vase body lavishly mounted in finely chased gilt bronze (ormolu) in the Louis XVI Revival taste. The white enamel dial presents crisp blue Roman numerals with an outer Arabic minute ring and ornate pierced brass hands, supported by a sweeping ormolu base flanked by two seated putti figures engaged in scholarly pursuits. The vase body is crowned with an elaborate floral and foliate ormolu finial and fitted with scrolled ormolu handles, while swags of fruit and flowers cascade down the sides in high relief. The brass movement features two winding arbors, consistent with time-and-strike French movements of the period, and the beveled glass bezel opens to reveal a beautifully preserved enamel dial — a striking centerpiece worthy of a significant collection.

CONDITION REPORT
This mantel clock presents in very good condition consistent with its age as a late 19th-century French piece. The cobalt blue porcelain body retains its deep, lustrous glaze with no chips or cracks visible in the photographs, and the ormolu mounts display good gilding with the warm, mellow tone characteristic of aged gilt bronze rather than later re-gilding. The enamel dial shows minor age-appropriate spotting but remains highly legible; buyers should confirm the movement's running condition and the presence of a winding key prior to purchase, as neither can be verified from available images.
