French Gilt Bronze Portico Mantel Clock (Pendule à Portique) | Ormolu | Neoclassical | c. 1820–1845

An exceptional French gilt bronze portico mantel clock (pendule à portique) in the neoclassical tradition, dating to the Empire, Restauration, or early Louis-Philippe period, circa 1820–1845. The case is supported by four fluted columns with finely cast Corinthian capitals beneath a dentil-molded entablature, all executed in richly chased ormolu throughout. The elaborately pierced and repousséd dial surround frames a gilt brass Roman numeral chapter ring with blued steel hands, centered by a deeply embossed floral boss concealing the movement winding arbors. A decorative gilt pendulum bob and original winding key are present, completing this superb example of French horological craftsmanship at its finest.

This French gilt bronze portico mantel clock presents in good antique condition consistent with its age of approximately 175–200 years. The ormolu case retains its warm, original gilding with minor surface wear and light patination to high-relief areas, as expected and desirable on an authentic example — no regilding is evident. The movement's running condition is unverified from imagery alone and should be assessed and serviced by a qualified horologist prior to use; the original winding key is present and accounted for.
