French Empire Ormolu & Patinated Bronze Eagle Mantel Clock on Siena Marble Base, c. 1805–1825

A superb example of French Empire decorative artistry, this drumhead mantel clock features a boldly modeled patinated bronze eagle with wings dramatically outstretched, perched upon a richly veined Siena marble plinth trimmed with gilt bronze rope-twist molding and raised on ormolu bun feet. The spherical clock case is encased in a finely chased ormolu bezel adorned with foliate and fruiting garland mounts, surmounted by a flame-and-pine torch finial of exceptional quality. The white enamel dial presents crisp Roman numerals with a subsidiary minute chapter, while the engine-turned gilt brass dial center radiates with guilloche sunburst decoration — a hallmark of the finest Parisian horological workshops of the early nineteenth century. Two winding apertures confirm an eight-day striking movement, consistent with high-grade French Empire production from the workshops supplying the Napoleonic court and its aristocratic clientele.

The mantel clock presents in very good overall condition commensurate with its age of approximately 200 years. The patinated bronze eagle retains its original dark finish with no visible repairs or restorations, the ormolu mounts retain strong gilding with natural age-consistent mellowing, and the Siena marble plinth is intact with no chips or losses visible. The white enamel dial is clean and legible with no visible hairline cracks, and both hands appear original and undamaged; movement function should be verified by a qualified horologist prior to operation.
