The ebonized black slate or marble case is adorned with finely cast gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts throughout, including Neoclassical columns with ormolu capitals and bases, recumbent lion figures, paired griffins atop a triangular pediment, urn finials, and an elaborate foliate bezel surround — all hallmarks of the Empire and Restauration aesthetic. The white enamel dial presents bold Roman hour numerals, an Arabic '60' minute marker at the top, and decorative trefoil hands in blued steel, set within a beaded gilt bezel.
